PROF OLADOSU OJENGBEDE

Academic and Professional Background: Prof. Oladosu Ojengbede is a highly accomplished medical professional with extensive expertise in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He began his academic journey at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, where he earned a Bachelor of Medical Science (MBBS) degree in 1972, followed by a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1974. He further specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology, obtaining a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG) in 1981 and a Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 1982. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was also awarded a Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) in 1988. Prof. Ojengbede enhanced his leadership capabilities by obtaining a certificate in Strategic Leadership and Management for Health from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, as well as a Certificate in Special Health Leadership for Maternal Health between 2002 and 2010.

Positions, Honors, and Awards: Prof. Ojengbede has been recognized with numerous awards for his contributions to healthcare and medical education. Notably, he received the UNFPA Award in 2005 for his immeasurable contribution to the success of the Fistula Fortnight in Nigeria. His dedication to women’s health was further acknowledged by the Kebbi State Government with a commendation for his hard work and commitment at the VVF Fistula Birnin Kebbi. Among his many accolades are the Distinguished Leadership in National Development Gold Award (2010), the Nigeria Selfless Service Gold Award (2009), and the African Age International Achievers Gold Award for Excellence (2008). His leadership and excellence have also been recognized through various merit awards from organizations such as the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), the Faculty of Public Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and Alexander Brown Hall.

Other Experience and Professional Memberships: Prof. Ojengbede is a consultant to the Johns Hopkins Programme for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics, a role he has held since 2004. He serves as the Director of the STD Training Programme at the University of Ibadan and has been the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre in Research and Research Training in Human Reproduction since 1991. His extensive experience in these roles highlights his commitment to advancing medical education, research, and the improvement of public health outcomes in Nigeria and beyond.
