Advancing Poultry Production Through Innovative Research

Pioneering Organic Solutions for Healthier Chickens and Safer Poultry Products

UI-RESEARCH FOUNDATION  is funding experts  in poultry sciences, veterinarian, biochemists and  technologist at  the  University  of  Ibadan  who are exploring  the  use of garlic as organic  growth promoter in  production of chickens , These  research  leaders  are  carefully  assessing  production   parameters  and  health benefits  of  garlic  in  the  feed  of  commercial  layers from day old  chicks. Their  success  could  eliminate antibiotics  which have  been  banned  form  chicken feed as  growth promoter and  removed   public  worry about antibiotics  residue in poultry and  poultry products

Multidisciplinary Expertise

Collaborating Across Disciplines for Poultry Innovation

Our project brings together a diverse team of specialists who are dedicated to advancing poultry science. Veterinarians, biochemists, technologists, and poultry scientists are collaborating to meticulously assess the impact of garlic on various production parameters. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that the research is comprehensive, covering all aspects from the health benefits to the overall productivity of the chickens.

Research Focus

Assessing the Health Benefits and Production Parameters of Garlic in Poultry Feed

The core focus of this research is on the health benefits that garlic provides when used as an organic growth promoter in poultry feed. Our researchers are analyzing key production parameters such as growth rate, feed conversion efficiency, and overall health of the chickens. By carefully monitoring these factors, the team is uncovering the potential of garlic to replace traditional antibiotics in poultry farming, a critical step forward given the ban on antibiotics as growth promoters.

Potential Impact

Promoting Safer Poultry Products and Eliminating Antibiotics Residues

The successful integration of garlic as a growth promoter could revolutionize the poultry industry by eliminating the need for antibiotics in chicken feed. This not only aligns with global regulatory changes but also addresses public concerns over antibiotic residues in poultry products. By supporting this research, the UI-Research Foundation is helping to pave the way for healthier, safer poultry products that meet consumer demands.

Economic Development

Driving Economic Growth Through Sustainable Poultry Practices

This research initiative is more than just a scientific exploration; it is a catalyst for economic development. By reducing the reliance on antibiotics and promoting organic growth promoters like garlic, poultry farmers can potentially lower production costs while improving the quality of their products. This creates opportunities for economic growth within the poultry industry, benefitting both local farmers and the broader economy.

Environmental and Health Benefits

Supporting Environmental Sustainability and Public Health

The shift towards using garlic as an organic growth promoter supports environmental sustainability by reducing the environmental impact associated with antibiotic use. Additionally, it promotes public health by ensuring that poultry products are free from harmful antibiotic residues, thereby protecting consumers and contributing to overall food safety.
