Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro is a distinguished academic and seasoned administrator hailing from Gwarangah in Bogoro LGA, Bauchi State. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in 1981, followed by a Master’s degree in Animal Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1988. He further advanced his academic credentials by earning a PhD in Animal Science, specializing in Biochemistry and Ruminant Nutrition, from the Federal University of Technology, now known as Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, in 1997. By 2003, he had risen to the rank of Professor of Animal Science, reflecting his deep expertise in the field.

Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Bogoro has been a prolific researcher, contributing significantly to both local and international academic journals. His research and innovations have had a substantial impact, particularly in the development of a Rumen Fermentation Model and a Modified Re-entrant Rumen Cannulation Surgical Technique, which have enhanced the understanding and management of rumen metabolism in livestock. His consultancy work spans global organizations like the World Bank, UNDP, USAID, DFID, and more, highlighting his versatility and influence in managing and advising on international, national, and regional projects.

Professor Bogoro’s leadership roles are equally impressive. He was the pioneer Director of the NIMET-supported Agro-Meteorology Centre at ATBU in 2004 and served as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede-Owerri, Imo State, from 2005 to 2007. His commitment to research and development (R&D) is evident in his tenure as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) from April 2014 to February 2016, during which he established the Department of Research and Development at TETFund. This department has been instrumental in fostering partnerships between researchers and industries, driving applied research and innovative solutions to national challenges.

In recognition of his contributions, Professor Bogoro has been honored with several Fellowships, including those from the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, the Nigerian Society for Animal Production, and the College of Animal Scientists of Nigeria. He has also been involved in the National Think Tank for Translating Research to Innovations, Strategies, and Evidence for Policies in Nigeria, where he plays a pivotal role in guiding research for national development.

Professor Bogoro’s reinstatement as the Executive Secretary of TETFUND in 2019, as announced by the Federal Government, underscores the continued confidence in his leadership and vision for advancing education and research in Nigeria. His extensive experience and strategic insight make him a key figure in the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and impact of tertiary education in the country.
