Adolescence is a critical stage of life when significant physical, cognitive, and social developments take place. During this period, essential behaviors related to diet, exercise, alcohol and tobacco use, violence, and sexual activity are formed and adopted.

Between 2010 and 2019, the global prevalence of overweight and obesity among adolescents aged 10–19 years saw a significant increase. For boys, rates rose from 14.4% to 20.2%, while for girls, the increase was from 13.8% to 18.4%.

The ARISE-BOTNAR initiative represents a significant collaboration between the African Research and Impact Network (ARISE) and the Botnar Foundation, with the University of Ibadan Research Foundation (UI-RF) playing a pivotal role in its implementation.
