Career:
- 2003: Joined Howard University faculty, working in genetic epidemiology at the National Human Genome Center.

- Current Role: Deputy Director and Chief Scientific Officer at the NHGRI Center for Research on Genomics and Global Health.
Research Focus:
- Genomics of complex diseases, including cardiometabolic disorders and childhood disorders.
- Significant contributions to the understanding of obesity, serum lipids, hypertension, and blood pressure in African populations through pioneering genome-wide studies.
- Notable work on the genetics of orofacial clefts, including novel IRF6 mutations in Van Der Woude syndrome and popliteal pterygium syndrome, as well as rare functional variants in non-syndromic cleft lip/palate.
- Ongoing research on congenital heart defects (CHD) in African populations, involving genomic studies and the creation of a clinical epidemiology dataset.
Leadership and Contributions:
- Co-chair, H3Africa Genome Analysis Working Group.
- Member, H3ABioNet Scientific Advisory Board.
- Co-creator of the NHGRI Electronic Atlas of Birth Defects for Diverse Populations.
